Media Release from Classic Information Systems

Specialised accounting software for mining.

The accounting software needs of the mining industry are quite different from other businesses.

Perth, West Australia -- July 15th 1999 -- Classic Information Systems, based in Osborne Park, Western Australia, supplies and services its Classic accounting software specifically designed with a full range of modules and many tailored features for the explorer and producer. The batch processing system provides maximum flexibility while maintaining full audit accountability across multi-user networks.

"With its clear emphasis on cost control, management reporting and maintenance, the Classic mine system is designed for the mining industry where a fully integrated system is required," Mr Fitzpatrick said.

"The modules can operate as self-standing but Classic has paid particular attention to integrating the modules at the very highest and lowest levels of operation to ensure a one-entry system is maintained."

He said the major areas Classic had developed for the mining software were accounts payable, purchase orders and inventory, as well as tenement/costing and general ledger reporting. These are the areas where a minesite differs quite substantially from what normal accounting software is designed to do.

"Very much related to the control of costs and the expenditure side," Mr Fitzpatrick said. "Inventory on a minesite is normally spare parts for the plant, and maintenance work done on the plant."

Classic Information Systems supplies its Classic accounting software package to the Jubilee gold mine and to Newhampton's head office. Mr Fitzpatrick said this was the most appropriate package for Jubilee due to the size of the operation. The software also handles the exploration activity around the minesite.

"The mining industry has unique requirements in the area of tenement costing, and this specialised software takes into account these aspects," he said.

Classic is operated by professional accountants that are fully aware of the legal and taxation requirements which need to be incorporated into the software. They offer back-up support and service and are also able to upgrade the software for the changing needs of explorers and producers.

"We will be releasing a Windows version of the program later this year and also extending the life of the DOS software to cater for the year 2000 and beyond," Mr Fitzpatrick said. "in some cases, companies do not want to upgrade their hardware so a DOS version is still appropriate."

He said the software was also Year 2000 compliant, able to combat the threat posed by the millennium bug.
